Seven Tires at Miller Creek
Orion Magazine interview HERE.
Miller Creek is a two-mile stream near our home. It originates in an ecologically intact area of Forest Park and empties into the Willamette River within close proximity to several industrial Superfund sites. In the fall of 2013, a week after walking Miller creek and encountering these seven tires, Nina Montenegro and I returned to pull them from the creek bed. Working with a mechanic we were able to date the tires and discover that their ages span the duration of sixty years. Our continued investigation into the history and future of these tires is based on our own interest in thinking about the psychology of waste and land use.
